CAPT Garrett Miller, USN
Commodore, Surface Development Group One (SURFDEVGRU 1)
Captain Garrett H. Miller, a native of Daytona Beach, Florida, enlisted in the United States Navy as a Quartermaster in 1991 and was assigned to the pre-commissioning crew of USS SHILOH (CG 67). He was selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program in 1996, attended San Diego State University, and commissioned in December 1997.
CAPT Miller’s sea duty assignments include: Commanding Officer of USS MICHAEL MONSOOR (DDG 1001) from August 2020 to August 2023; Commanding Officer of USS FITZGERALD (DDG 62) from August 2017 to January 2020; Commanding Officer and Executive Officer of USS DECATUR (DDG 73) 2013 to 2016; Combat Systems Officer and Weapons Officer in USS LABOON (DDG 58), one of three ships in the first Atlantic Fleet Destroyer Sea Swap experiment; commissioning Fire Control Officer on USS MCCAMPBELL (DDG 85); and Gunnery Officer and Damage Control Assistant in USS MOOSBRUGGER (DD 980).
Ashore, he completed a joint tour at United States Central Command, serving as the Secretary of Joint Staff Director. He also served as an Exercise Planner in U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command / U.S. Fourth Fleet in Mayport, Florida and was the Commanding Officer of Regional Support Organization, Pacific Northwest, serving as COMNAVSURFPAC’s Regional Executive Agent for the Pacific Northwest Region. His most recent shore assignment was serving at the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations N96 as Deputy Director.
Currently, CAPT Miller serves as the Commodore of Surface Development Group One (CSDG-1).
CAPT Miller holds a Masters of Business Administration degree (Financial Management subspecialty) from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
